ENGAGE Pathway 1

Our Pathway 1 is the ENGAGE PATHWAY.  This is modelled on the Government's Engagement Model.

The engagement model is an assessment tool that helps us to    support    pupils who are working below the level of the national curriculum and who are not yet ready to engage in subject-specific study.
Our Engage Pathway has 5 areas of focus: exploration, realisation, anticipation, persistence, and initiation.
The Engage Pathway    identifies and celebrates all pupils’ progress, including linear and lateral progress, the consolidation and maintenance of knowledge, skills and concepts and the prevention or slowing of a decline in pupils’ performance, whilst recognising that a minority of pupils may have a regressive condition.
Progress is measured by regular observational assessment and reflective pedagogy.      Progress through each of the 5 areas of engagement is  measured by identifying how established the pupil is against each of the areas of engagement. This  differs for each pupil according to their profile of needs as set out in their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

This   delivery and assessment cycle is ongoing throughout the year  and those areas of strength and development are  evidenced using the Evidence for Learning program.    Identified next steps may be included in pupils' Individualised Learning Plans.
Learning opportunities across this pathway include  opportunities to support language, social communication and attention activities (see below for Attention Autism information).    There is an emphasis on sharing attention with the children and  promoting engagement through sensory experiences.
One aspect of the Engage Pathway is supporting children to  recognise their feelings,  as well as the importance of people, places and objects in the context of their wants and needs, in preparation for later life.
If you would like to learn more about the Engagement Model, please  read here.

Remote Learning

In the event of remote learning being needed for any reason, school will contact parents with a learning offer.  Parents of children in the Engage Pathway will receive guidance from their class teacher with suggested activities and opportunities for regular check-ins as a family.  Resources can be provided upon request and if it is safe to do so.
