Discover Design & Technology
Our Curriculum
At Aspire School, our Design and Technology (DT) lessons are designed to inspire creativity, problem-solving, and practical skill development in a structured and engaging way. We follow the Kapow! scheme of work, which provides a comprehensive framework for teaching DT through a combination of project-based learning and storytelling. This approach ensures that children can make meaningful connections between their learning and real-world applications.
In Pathway 3, students have the opportunity to progress their learning in small, achievable steps. Each project is thoughtfully planned to develop key skills in areas such as designing, making, and evaluating. Storytelling is woven into the curriculum to bring projects to life, providing context and engaging students in purposeful problem-solving. For example, children might design and construct a shelter for a character in a story or create a working multi-tool inspired by a real-world challenge.
The Kapow! scheme ensures that skills are revisited and built upon, allowing children to see their progression clearly. Projects are differentiated to suit the diverse needs of our learners, ensuring that all children can participate and succeed. We also place a strong emphasis on fine motor skill development, with opportunities to use a range of tools, materials, and techniques tailored to individual physical abilities.
DT in Pathway 3 supports cross-curricular learning by integrating themes from science, maths, and art, helping children to see connections between subjects. This holistic approach ensures that our students not only develop practical skills but also foster creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork
