EXPLORE Pathway 2

Our Explore Pathway is based on providing child-centred, individualised learning opportunities for all children through a play-based provision.

We use foundational aspects of learning to inform and guide our delivery of 6 areas of learning:
  • Exploring My Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Exploring My    Mathematical Development
  • Exploring My Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Exploring My Physical Development
  • Exploring My Understanding of the World
  • Exploring My Expressive Arts and Design.
As our children move from our Engage Pathway where they focus on five areas of focus to build skills such as early communication, interaction and the cognitive skills that are important for development and learning, they move onto our Explore Pathway.  Here,  delivery of the curriculum is based around learning through play, where children explore active learning and becoming critical thinkers.  This pathway allows children to become used to more directed activities   in a semi-formal way.
A topic map ensures breadth and balance of learning and provides links to learning in the Discover Pathway for ease of flow between pathways and collegiate learning across classes. We base children’s individualised curriculum and goals around the outcomes in their EHCP to ensure that learning is relevant and personalised.

These exciting topics are used as vehicles to carry learning opportunities  into classes in the Explore Pathway.  Staff assess children's starting points using our  assessment  branch maps  across each of the 6 areas detailed above.   We recognise our children's learning is rarely linear, so our starting points for learning, which are detailed in the schemes of work for each area, provide varied and stimulating opportunities to build the foundations for systematic and sequential learning.
For examples of the Assessment Branch Maps and Schemes of Work, please see below.

Remote Learning

In the event of remote learning being needed for any reason, school will contact parents with a learning offer.  Parents of children in the Explore Pathway will receive guidance from their class teacher with suggested activities and opportunities for regular check-ins as individuals and as a   family.  Resources can be provided upon request and if it is safe to do so.
